Dolphin Educator's Network: October Issue

Welcome to the October 2009 Dolphin Educators Network newsletter. We hope that everyone had a great transition from the summer into the new school year. Here at Dolphin we have been very busy launching a new Internet safety product called Dolphin Secure, so we haven’t been able to attend as many theater events as we usually do. However, please keep in mind that we are always here as a resource if you need us. In this edition we discuss tips that can be given to students prior to going on auditions and we answer some of the most important questions that get asked to our casting department.  We hope that everyone has a great October, as the first term really gets underway!

Teacher Tip: Auditioning

Here is some good advice to give your students before they go on an audition.
  • Arrive early to your audition.  Allow time for parking, practicing and signing in.  You don’t want to rush into your audition.
  • Be sure to have the material fully memorized.
  • Be sure to carry pens and a notepad on you.  It always looks better to be prepared.
  • Bring a bottle of water and a snack.  Not every place has a water fountain and you want to make sure your throat is not dry and that you are hydrated.  You may also be there for a while and you want to make sure you are not grumpy because you are hungry.
  • Bring a toothbrush and toothpaste in the event that you eat a snack while waiting.
  • Be nice to everybody.  You never know the position of the person you are speaking to and everyone is important.
  • Do not fraternize or socialize while in the waiting room, and if your parent comes with you, this applies to them as well.
  • Don’t let anyone else who is auditioning for the same role intimidate you.  Try not to compare yourself to others.
